Football Agent Getting Started Guide
Everything a new player needs before diving into the rest of the wiki.
Football Agent throws you into the deep end. You start with €50,000 in the bank, one client who has no club, and nothing else — no staff, no office worth mentioning, no reputation. Your job is to change all of that. This guide walks you through your first season step by step, so you know what to do, when to do it, and how to avoid the most common early-game disasters.
Understanding the interface
The game is organised into five main panels that you will use every session:
- Scouting — shows which leagues your scouts can currently reach and lets you dispatch them on recruitment missions.
- Clients — lists every player on your books, their contract status, club, form, morale, and injury state.
- Agency — where you hire and manage staff, upgrade your office, and monitor your finances.
- Calendar — shows the match schedule, upcoming transfer windows, contract expirations, and your own action reminders.
- News — surfaces transfer rumours, rival agent activity, player injuries, and breaking stories that can create sudden opportunities or crises.
Get comfortable navigating between these five panels. You will live in them.
Your first client
You begin with a single unsigned player and no club connections. This is your most important asset at the start of the game. Before you do anything else, open the Clients panel and read everything about this player — their position, age, ability, contract length, and interest level in finding a new club.
Your first goal is to get this player signed with a club. That is your only source of income. Until they are playing somewhere and earning, your agency generates nothing.
Scouting explained
You do not pick players from a list. Instead you send scouts to leagues and they return reports. Think of it as a network model — your scouts are your eyes in faraway places. The scouting panel shows which leagues you currently have access to. Your starting access is limited to your home region.
To run a scouting mission:
- Open the Scouting panel.
- Select a league you have access to.
- Pick a scout from your staff roster.
- Choose how long to send them — longer missions return more detailed reports.
- Confirm and wait for the mission to complete.
When your scout returns, they will present a shortlist of unsigned players they watched. You can then initiate contact with any of them through the Clients panel.
Scouting missions cost money. Every week your agency has operating expenses. Watch your cash balance carefully — running out of money before you have a paying client means bankruptcy and a game over.
Signing your first player
Once you have a shortlist, open the Clients panel and start reaching out to players. Each player has an Interest rating — low interest means they are happy where they are and will be difficult to sign. High interest players are actively looking for a change.
The signing process moves through three stages:
- Initial Enquiry — you express interest and gauge theirs.
- Trial Offer — optional but builds trust with some players.
- Contract Negotiation — the final stage where commission and terms are agreed.
You cannot skip stages. Each one takes in-game weeks, and rival agents can interrupt your progress at any time by making their own approach.
Early financial management
You start with €50,000. It sounds like a lot until you realise how quickly it disappears. Scouting missions cost between €500 and €5,000 depending on the league and duration. Staff wages are paid weekly. Office upgrades have upfront costs.
The most important rule in the early game: do not spend money you do not have. If your cash balance drops below two weeks of operating costs, stop all scouting immediately and focus on finalising whatever negotiation is closest to completion.
Bankruptcy is the only fail state in the early game. There are no extra lives, no rescue packages. Manage your cash or lose.
Staff basics
You start with one basic scout. As your agency grows you can hire:
- Scouts — better scouts find higher-quality players in more leagues. Prioritise upgrading your scouting network before anything else.
- Lawyers — reduce your legal costs and improve your negotiating position on commission.
- Analysts — give you deeper data on player ability and potential.
- PR Managers — help manage player morale and protect your agency reputation.
- Physios — improve player recovery times and reduce injury frequency for your clients.
Do not hire all of them at once. Hire one scout, generate income, then hire the next staff member once you can afford their wages sustainably.
Growing your agency
Once your first client is playing for a club, you earn a percentage of their contract value as commission. This is the engine that funds everything else. With that income you can:
- Expand your scouting to new leagues
- Hire better staff
- Upgrade your office from a home setup to a proper agency
- Sign more clients and scale up
The game has a natural progression from a one-person operation running from a spare room to a global agency with offices in multiple countries. There is no artificial stopping point — you grow as fast as your finances allow.
What to prioritise in your first season
- Get your starting client into a club as quickly as possible.
- Run cheap scouting missions to build a shortlist of unsigned players.
- Sign one or two more clients — not five, not ten. One or two.
- Keep your cash reserves above two weeks of operating costs at all times.
- Do not promise players things you cannot deliver — damaged morale spreads fast.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Can I actually lose this game?
Yes. Bankruptcy is your primary fail state. If your cash reserves hit zero, your agency collapses and your save ends. There is no rescue or restart bonus. Manage your weekly operating costs carefully, especially in the first season before you have steady commission income.
How long is a season in Football Agent?
A typical season runs for 20 to 30 in-game weeks. You can use fast simulation to skip match weeks once you are comfortable with the rhythm of the game. Your first season will likely be the longest because you are learning the systems while managing a thin cash margin.
Is there a co-op or multiplayer mode?
No. Football Agent is a single-player experience. There are no co-op leagues, shared saves, or competitive agent modes. Every rival agent you encounter is controlled by the AI.
