Negotiation System in Football Agent
How contract negotiations work: stages, variables, and outcomes
This page documents Football Agent’s negotiation system as observed through community gameplay. Exact probabilities and values may change with updates.
Negotiation stages recap
The full signing negotiation passes through four stages:
- Initial Enquiry
- Trial Offer
- Contract Negotiation
- Club Agreement
Each stage has a base duration measured in in-game weeks. Certain conditions can accelerate or decelerate each stage.
Variables affecting negotiation outcomes
Interest level
Interest level is the single most important negotiation variable. It acts as a probability modifier on every negotiation action:
- High Interest (above 60%) — negotiations advance reliably. Rival agents rarely interfere. Trial periods are short or skippable.
- Medium Interest (30–60%) — negotiations require effort. Multiple week-long sessions needed per stage. Rival agents may enter the race.
- Low Interest (below 30%) — negotiations are extremely difficult. High chance of failure at each stage. Rival agents will almost certainly interfere.
Your reputation
Your agency reputation score modifies the Interest Level calculation. Higher reputation raises the baseline Interest Level for all players you approach. This is one of the most important long-term reasons to maintain your reputation.
Rival agents
Rival agents are represented by a RivalPresence value (Low / Medium / High) for each player you are pursuing. High Rival Presence:
- Reduces the player’s Interest Level by 15–25%.
- Extends the duration of each negotiation stage by 1–2 weeks.
- Increases the chance of the player ending negotiations without warning.
Mitigations: move faster, offer better terms, or pivot to a different target.
Contract terms: your side vs client side
Negotiations are structured around two sets of terms:
Terms you negotiate for yourself
- Commission rate — your take of the player’s contract value. Base range: 5–25%. Industry average is around 10–15%.
- Contract duration — how long the agency contract lasts. Longer duration = more security but less flexibility.
- Performance bonuses — additional commission triggered by appearances, goals, assists, trophies, or other achievements.
- Sell-on clause — percentage of future transfer fees that come back to you. Base range: 5–20%.
- Exclusivity — whether the player can also be represented by other agents during the agency contract.
Terms you negotiate on behalf of the client
- Club level — the tier of club the player will be placed at. Higher tier = harder to deliver.
- Playing time — minimum first-team appearances per season.
- Salary — minimum weekly or monthly wage.
- Career goals — specific targets (national team call-up, trophy wins, individual awards) tracked by the game.
Press mechanics
Press activity during negotiations has a probability component. Each in-game week during active negotiations, there is a chance of a press story about your pursuit of a player.
Press story outcomes:
- Positive story — raises your reputation slightly, may increase the player’s Interest Level, signals ambition to other players.
- Neutral story — minimal effect.
- Negative story — lowers the player’s Interest Level, may alert rival agents, can damage reputation if frequent.
PR staff in your agency reduce the probability of negative stories and increase the probability of positive ones.
Outcome probabilities
Based on community sampling, approximate success rates by Interest Level:
- High Interest, no rivals: ~85% success rate
- High Interest, with rivals: ~60% success rate
- Medium Interest, no rivals: ~55% success rate
- Medium Interest, with rivals: ~30% success rate
- Low Interest: ~10% or below
These are approximate community estimates, not developer-published figures.
Post-negotiation: what affects client happiness
Once a client is signed and placed with a club, their happiness is tracked against the promises you made during negotiation. The game continuously evaluates:
- Did the player receive the promised level of first-team football?
- Is the player’s salary meeting expectations?
- Is the player progressing towards their career goals?
- How is the player’s morale week by week?
Breaches of promise are tracked and accumulate. Too many breaches result in the player terminating their contract with you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What commission rate should I aim for?
Industry average in-game is around 10–15%. Going above 20% makes you uncompetitive for high-interest players. You can compensate with sell-on clauses and performance bonuses.
Can I renegotiate terms after signing?
Yes, through the contract review system. Both you and the player can trigger reviews. Renegotiation uses the same multi-stage system as initial signing.
What happens if a rival agent outbids me?
You receive a news notification and the player becomes unavailable for the duration of the rival's negotiation. If that negotiation fails, the player becomes available again.
