Scouting System in Football Agent
How reports, ratings, and networks work under the hood
This page documents the scouting system in Football Agent based on community reverse-engineering from gameplay. Mechanics may change with game updates.
Scouting mission structure
A scouting mission is assigned to a specific league with a specific scout. The mission returns a shortlist of players after the specified duration expires.
Mission duration tiers
Scouting missions have three duration tiers that affect report quality:
- Short (1 week) — returns a basic overview. Identifies players who are actively performing but may miss hidden gems.
- Medium (2–3 weeks) — returns detailed reports including approximate potential ratings. Suitable for most scouting needs.
- Long (4+ weeks) — returns comprehensive reports including potential ratings, contract status, and interest level. Best for high-value signings.
Report contents
Each player in a scout report includes:
- Overall Rating (OR) — the scout’s estimate of the player’s current ability on a 1–99 scale. May be inaccurate for players in lower leagues scouted by low-skill scouts.
- Potential Rating (PR) — the scout’s estimate of the player’s maximum achievable ability. The most important metric for agents. May change over time as the player develops or stagnates.
- Age — the player’s current age in years.
- Position(s) — the primary and secondary positions the player occupies.
- Club — the player’s current club.
- Contract expiry — the date on which the current contract expires, in in-game seasons.
- Estimated value — the scout’s estimate of the player’s market value in the current transfer market.
- Interest level — the player’s openness to changing agents, expressed as Low / Medium / High.
Scout quality
Each scout has a quality rating that affects the accuracy of their reports:
- Novice scouts — may underestimate potential by up to 10 points, especially for young players. Suitable for initial exploration of a new league.
- Experienced scouts — estimates within 3–5 points of actual potential. Suitable for most purposes.
- Elite scouts — estimates within 1–2 points of actual potential. Required for reliable identification of genuine wonderkids.
Scout quality is improved through:
- Experience gained from completed missions.
- Training investments in the Agency panel.
- Specific analyst contracts that complement scout skills.
Network expansion
Access to leagues is governed by the agency network:
- Starting access — limited to leagues in and adjacent to your home country.
- Regional expansion — purchase access to a region (e.g., Western Europe, South America) through the Agency panel.
- Partnership scouts — assign a scout to a new region to gain access without a full regional office investment.
- Travel scouting — personally visit any league regardless of network, at high time and money cost.
Travel scouting
Travel scouting bypasses network restrictions entirely. When you travel to a league personally:
- You receive a report equivalent to a long-duration mission from your best available scout.
- You can attend multiple matches personally, improving report accuracy further.
- Each trip costs a significant amount of money and takes 2–4 in-game weeks.
- You cannot perform other agency tasks while travelling.
Use personal travel scouting for:
- Verifying high-priority potential signings before committing to negotiations.
- Exploring leagues you have not yet invested in network access for.
- High-stakes situations where scouting accuracy is worth the time investment.
Community notes
Based on Day-1 player experience: the scouting system is one of the most stable and well-documented systems in the Early Access launch. The developers have not announced plans to change it significantly, though the player database (47,500 players) expands with each major update.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How accurate are potential ratings?
They are estimates based on scout quality and mission duration. Elite scouts on long missions are very accurate (within 1–2 points). Novice scouts on short missions can be off by 10 or more points.
Can a player's potential change?
A player's potential ceiling does not change, but the scout's estimate of it may become more accurate over time as the player develops and more match data becomes available.
Is there a cap on how many leagues I can scout?
No hard cap, but each league requires either network access (money) or personal travel (time). Practical scouting capacity is limited by your scout roster size and operating budget.
